Avocado Mousse — chocolate avocado mousse
Avocado chocolate mousse is a contemporary vegan-friendly American dessert: ripe avocados puréed with cocoa, maple syrup and vanilla into a creamy mousse that tastes purely of chocolate (the avocado disappears in flavour but contributes its silky texture).
i. Origin & history
Avocado-based desserts have a long history in Mexico, the Philippines and Brazil (where avocado is treated as a sweet fruit). The Western chocolate-avocado-mousse format emerged in the early 2000s as part of the broader rise of healthier dessert alternatives.

iv. Tips & common mistakes
- Use the freshest ingredients you can. The recipe relies on them.
- Read the method through first. Several steps must be ready in advance.
- Season patiently. Sweetness and salt are tuned at the end, not the start.
v. Variations
Avocado lime mousse uses lime juice for a different direction. Avocado coffee mousse uses espresso. Honey-vanilla version skips chocolate entirely.
