Choco Pie — marshmallow-filled chocolate biscuits
Choco Pie is a Korean snack: two soft sponge-cake disks sandwiching a layer of marshmallow, then enrobed in chocolate. They are sold in foil-wrapped packets and have become so commercially dominant — particularly the Orion brand — that the name is sometimes used generically.
i. Origin & history
The Orion Choco Pie was launched in 1974 and is reportedly inspired by the American Moon Pie. They have become massively popular in South Korea, China, Russia and increasingly globally — and have been smuggled across the North Korean border as a kind of soft currency.

iv. Tips & common mistakes
- Use the freshest ingredients you can. The recipe relies on them.
- Read the method through first. Several steps must be ready in advance.
